斎藤氏を応援するなら、なぜ立候補する必要があったのか。
立花氏は立候補の表明会見で「当選を目標にしなきゃいけないんだって思い込んでいる常識をちょっと覆したい」とし、「選挙って効率いいんですよ。やはり選挙に出るからユーチューブを見てもらえる」と語った。さらに、告示後の街頭演説では「影響力が違う。（ユーチューブなどと）選挙に出て堂々と言うこととは、重みが違うじゃない」とも話した。(略)

公職選挙法は、選挙の公平性を担保するために候補者1人あたりのポスターや選挙カーの数などを制限している。総務省選挙課は「法解釈上、候補者は他の候補者の選挙運動ができない」と説明。立花氏の活動については、「違反しているかどうかはわからない。警察が事実に基づいて判断していくものだ」とした。
専門家からは疑問の声が上がる。
これまで多くの知事選挙に関わった選挙プランナーの三浦博史氏は、立花氏の戦略が「斎藤氏に対する『判官びいき』に火をつけ、強烈な追い風となったはずだ」と見る。
投票率は前回を約15ポイント上回る55.65%だった。「選挙が盛り上がるのは良いことだ」との見解を示しつつも、「2馬力」については「フェアとは言えない。これが許されれば、誰かを当選、落選させる狙いで複数人で立候補し、ポスターや選挙カーを増やした選挙運動が可能になる」と問題視。「本人の当選を目的としない立候補は認めない旨を公選法に明記すべきだ」と語った。
