自民党選挙制度調査会は4日、党本部で会合を開き、国政選挙や地方選に立候補できる「被選挙権年齢」の引き下げに関する検討チームの設置を決めた。若者の政治離れが指摘される中、若年層の政治参加を促す狙いがある。座長には中曽根康隆青年局長が就く。被選挙権年齢の引き下げを求める声は各党からあり、今後の議論を主導したい考えもあるとみられる。
公選法は被選挙権年齢に関し、衆院議員と都道府県議会議員、市区町村の首長と議員が25歳以上、参院議員と都道府県知事は30歳以上と規定する。検討チームは引き下げの妥当性を巡り協議する。
