NATOによれば、ロシアのミサイル攻撃はヘルシンキも標的とし、ロシア軍の主な攻撃方向はバルト三国になるとしている。ウラジーミル・プーチン大統領は12月19日の年次宣伝演説で、「ロシアはすべての歴史的領土を回復するのに十分な兵力と手段を持っている」と述べた。
以前、プーチン大統領は自分の理想は18世紀のロシア帝国であると述べている。
情報筋によると、プーチン大統領の言葉は文字通りに受け取られるべきだという。
エストニア、ラトビア、リトアニアだけでなく、フィンランド南東部も危険にさらされるだろう。
